CANCELLIER, PHILIP D. Philip D. Cancellier, long time North County flower grower, died August 13, of gall bladder cancer. Phil was born in New York City in 1927, served in the Army Air Corps during WWII, and graduated from Claremont Men's College (Claremont McKenna College). After graduation he pursued a career in retail management at I. Magnin & Co. Phil began a second career in 1978 as a carnation grower in Encinitas, where he was instrumental in the creation of the San Diego County Flower and Plant Auction. Phil is survived by his wife of 54 years, Helen; his daughter, Phillis Carey of Carlsbad and her children, Rory and Leila; his daughter, Patricia Cancellier of Rockville, Maryland, her husband, David Friedman and their children, Sylvie and Jack; his son, Peter Cancellier of Carlsbad, his wife, Barbara Cancellier and their two children, Amber and Michelle; and a brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Patricia Cancellier of Henderson, Nevada. Memorial service Saturday, August 21, 2 p.m., El Camino Memorial, Encinitas Chapel, 340 Melrose Avenue, Encinitas (760-753-1143). The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to The Whittier Institute for Diabetes, Hayek Fellowship, 9890 Genesee Ave., Suite 316, La Jolla, Ca. 92037.
