Obituaries from the Past Week

Moore, Jack
Jack Moore John (Jack) M. Moore, recently of Morro Bay, passed away at home March 11, 2015. Born a British subject in September, 1926 in Coleraine, Co. Londonderry, N. Ireland, his family emigrated to the United States. His early life was spent in Bristol, R.I. At age 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving as a Gunner's Mate in World War II on the LCS #20, assigned mine sweeping duty in the China Sea and Sea of Japan. After the war, he proudly became a naturalized citizen of the United States. Jack studied Animal Husbandry, first at URI (B.S.) and then at UConn (M.S.) while working on local farms. After college, he was employed for 20 years as a Dept. of Agriculture dairy laboratory supervisor for the New England region. In 1983, Jack relocated to Los Osos, working in local woodshops. He also turned scrap wood into beautiful carvings, sold locally. Jack enjoyed all outdoor pursuits with a special love of the water. He was responsible for naming the Baywood Navy. With BN friends, he built and maintained the boats he sailed. Jack still holds the Baywood Navy record for, "most days on the water in one year" with 234. He loved people and was blessed with an entirely grand sense of humor. Jack was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Laura Lee Jensen Moore. He leaves his dearest friend of 18 years, Eleanor Williams; his three children and spouses and five grandchildren. In lieu of flowers or condolences, donations may be made to the Morro Bay Estuary Project ( http://www.mbnep.org ). Sign his guestbook at sanluisobispo.com/obituaries
