Nakai, Michiko
Michi Nakai Michiko "Michi" Nakai, 75, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on June 20, 2016, in Nipomo, California. Michi was born in November 1940 in San Francisco alongside her older sisters Eiko and Eleanor. In 1942, her family was forced to relocate to Tanforan, Calif., Topaz, Utah, and then Tule Lake, Calif., as a result of Executive Order 9066 during World War II, which required all Japanese Americans to move to inland areas. Michi returned to San Francisco where she graduated from George Washington High School. She met Roy Nakai and the two married in Palo Alto in 1963. They lived in Cupertino for over 27 years where Michi raised daughter Kimberly and son Kevin. In 1990, Michi and Roy moved on a job transfer to Aliso Viejo in Southern California where they lived for 17 years. In 2008, Michi and Roy moved to Nipomo on the Central Coast to be closer to Kimberly Hayashi's family and their grandchildren's various activities. This location was perfect as it was situated between Michi's Bay Area family and Kevin's family in Torrance, Calif., both 3-4 hours away. Michi was a true fighter who never let her challenges with CBD (atypical Parkinson's Disorder) deter her from engaging in social activities with family and friends. She is survived by her husband Roy of 52 wonderful years, daughter Kim Hayashi (Alan), son Kevin Nakai (Tina), grandchildren: Colin, Kyle, Kobe, Katy, and their large extended family. A Viewing will be held on Tuesday, June, 28 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Marshall-Spoo Sunset Funeral Chapel, 1239 Longbranch Ave., Grover Beach, Calif., 93433. The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, June 29 at 10:30am at San Luis Obispo Buddhist Church, 6996 Ontario Road, San Luis Obispo, Calif., 93405. Sign her guestbook at
