Hendricks, Orv - Arroyo Grande
Orv Hendricks It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Orville "Orv" Lawrence Hendricks on September 6, 2016, surrounded by family. Orv was born in July 1936 in Atwater, California. He attended Merced High School, Modesto Junior College, Anderson College, and Fresno State College graduating with his Master's degree in 1965. Orv met his future wife Judith Eskridge at Anderson College; they were married in 1960 and made their home in Atwater before moving to Arroyo Grande in 1963. He was a teacher at Mitchell Senior Elementary ('60-'63) and Arroyo Grande High School ('63-'66), before moving on to Cuesta Community College ('66-'98). Orv is survived by his three sons: Mike (Raelynn) of Santa Margarita, Brian (Meegan) of Los Osos, and Steve (Rachael) of Los Osos; three grandchildren: Zoe, Sienna and Quinci, and two brothers, Marvin and Larry. He is preceded in death by his wife Judy Hendricks, his brother Don Hendricks, and his parents Lawrence and Freda Hendricks. Orv worked tirelessly for Cuesta College for 32 years as a counselor and a teacher, retiring in 1998 as the Dean of Business, Engineering and Human Development. He finished his career as interim Dean and Vice President for several different divisions at Allan Hancock College ('05). Orv and Judy built their dream home on six acres in a secluded valley near Corbett Canyon in 1988. They never passed up an opportunity to host family gatherings. He loved sports, the outdoors, and enjoyed taking his sons and grandchildren fishing, water-skiing and snow- skiing. Orv and his family enjoyed many great vacations in their motorhome. Orv was a selfless man that loved to help other people. He touched many lives with his deeply generous nature and was always willing to lend a helping hand and offer sage advice. He will be deeply missed by all who had the great fortune of knowing him. A Celebration of Life will be held at Cuesta College's CPAC on Saturday, Oct. 1 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm (parking lot 2A). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Orv and Judy Hendricks scholarship fund for re-entry women at Cuesta College: http://weblink.donorperfect.com/cuestafoundation .
