Marie Jo LaVack

Marie Jo LaVack, 91, died peacefully Monday, Jan. 9, 2012, at home with family. Jo was born in 1920, the tenth child of Maggie and Louis Wisdom in Blue Ridge, Texas. She graduated San Pedro High School (Calif.) as an Ephebian and married the love of her life, Lloyd, in 1938. During his 45-year U.S. Navy career, she raised four sons, through three wars and numerous transfers around the world. At age 47, she began college at Grossmont Junior College in El Cajon, Calif., and graduated in 1969. She attended San Diego State and completed her Ph.D. in Psychology at CSPP San Diego in 1978. Lloyd and Jo moved to San Luis Obispo in 2001. Jo is survived by her sons Jerry, Michael, David (Carol) and Randy (Shayne); grandchildren Lloyd, Elizabeth, Chase, Paul, Madeleine, and Spencer; five great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and other extended. A service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 15, 2012, at Las Brisas Retirement Community, 1299 Briarwood in San Luis Obispo.
