Jack David Pearl, resident of Shell Beach, died unexpectedly Sunday, Sept. 1, 2013, in Brooklyn, N.Y., while doing one of the things he loved in life, dancing. Jack was born in San Francisco, Calif., in August 1951 in the Hunters Point neighborhood, where his beloved 49ers and Giants made their eventual home. His family moved to Oakland in 1953, and again to Los Angeles in 1959 to be closer to his mother's family, with whom he stayed close with throughout his life. Jack attended Cheremoya Avenue Elementary School, Joseph Le Conte Junior High School and Hollywood High School in Los Angeles, where he played basketball and football - he graduated in 1969. Jack moved to Isla Vista (Santa Barbara) in 1971 to attend UC Santa Barbara, where he majored in History, one of his many passions in life that he continued to pursue. Jack met his wife-to-be, Eloise, while at UC Santa Barbara - they were married in 1977. Jack and Eloise moved to Orcutt, where Jack took a teaching position at Orcutt Junior High School. Eloise later began her teaching career in Guadalupe, Calif. Jack later obtained his Marriage and Family Counseling license and master's degree in Educational Administration from Cal Poly. Jack and Eloise had three children, Jacob, Rachel and Benjamin, all born in Santa Maria. Jack and Eloise and the family moved to San Luis Obispo in 1989, where the children were raised. Jack lost Eloise, his wife of 30 years, to a prolonged bout of ovarian cancer in March of 2007. Their close family friend, David Stern, passed away three weeks afterwards. Jack first met his second wife, Susan, when she moved to San Luis Obispo with her husband, David in the early 1990's. Following David's passing, Jack and Susan found solace in one another's loss. Jack and Susan were married in June 2008 and their love for each other grew into a beautiful partnership. Jack enjoyed going to sporting events in the Bay Area, traveling to see many friends and family across the country, camping, and BBQ'ing, one of his favorite things to do. Jack is survived by his wife, Susan, of Shell Beach; sons Jacob, of San Carlos, Calif.; and Benjamin, of Campbell, Calif.; daughter, Rachel, of Redwood City, Calif.; two-month old grandson, Isaiah, of San Carlos; brothers Norman, of Dana Point, Calif.; and Marshall, of Boston, Mass. A burial service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013, at the Los Osos Valley Memorial Park, 2260 Los Osos Valley Road in Los Osos. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013, at Temple Ner Shalom, 875 Laureate Lane in San Luis Obispo.
