June Simpson Lord

June Simpson Lord, 95, passed away due to natural causes Sunday, Sept. 2, 2012, surrounded by family at her home in San Luis Obispo. Born in Montana, her family moved briefly to Portland, Ore., and later settled in Santa Monica, Calif. June attended schools in Santa Monica and graduated from UCLA with a B.A. degree in Elementary Education in 1939. June married Wilson Lord in February 1941 in Honolulu, Hawaii, and resided there through 1944. After World War II, June and Wilson lived in several locations, including Northern California, Kansas and New York. They returned to Santa Monica to settle and raise a family. June enjoyed several hobbies, including oil painting, home decorating, ballroom dancing and gardening. She also was a devout Christian and studied the Bible for years. June spent the last 32 years of her life in San Luis Obispo and was an active member of the Monday Club. She enjoyed ballroom dancing at the Madonna Inn and made many friends at that time. June is survived by two daughters Marilyn Lord Manno and Carol Lord; son-in-law, Mark Manno; and two granddaughters Mary June Manno and Grace Anne Manno. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilson; and sister, Helen Fraser. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 9, 2013, at Wheeler-Smith Mortuary, 2890 S.
