Richard Ebert Smith

Richard Ebert "Dick" Smith, 77, passed away from congestive heart failure at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, at the Danish Care Center in Atascadero. Dick was born to the late Ebert and Nellie Smith on St. Patrick''s Day1935, in Bell, Calif. He graduated from Downy High School in 1953 and married his high school sweetheart, Sherry Oleen, in 1954, settling down in Artesia to raise a family. In 1966, Dick and his family moved to Paso Robles. In 1970, he worked for the SLO Sherriff''s Dept. as the resident deputy at Nacimiento Lake. After eight years in law enforcement, Dick began his plumbing business full time. He also taught Adaptive Aquatics programs through the Red Cross and the Paso Robles Rec. Dept., and managed the city pool for many years. Dick is survived by his wife Susan of Illinois; first wife, Sherry of San Diego; three sons David of San Diego, Eric of Paso Robles and Steve of San Diego; and daughter, Lori. He is also survived by his grandchildren Geoffrey Smith, Marissa Rogers, James and Michael Russell, Sarena Whisenhunt, Erika Stoll and Kelly Smith; and a great-grandchild, Wyatt Smith. A celebration of Dick Smith''s life will occur at 11 a.m. Sunday, March 17, 2013, at his son Eric''s vineyard in Paso Robles. Email for details.
