Richard Morris Andrus Jr. passed away peacefully after a long and courageous fight against cancer Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012, at home in San Luis Obispo. Richard was born in 1936 in Bell, Calif., to Richard Morris Andrus and Roma Irene Boston. He married Darlene Anne Hill 51 years ago and had five children: John, Lorana (deceased in 2003), Mark, Daniel, and Michael. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ Latter-day Saints in the Western Canadian Mission in 1956, and then served six years in the U.S. Army Reserves. Richard earned his BA from Cal State L.A. and his MA at Cal Poly. He was a history teacher and school administrator for 35 years before he retired from the San Luis Coastal School District in 1997. Richard saw his role as a servant to students and teachers and strove to put people over policy. Richard loved his Savior, Jesus Christ, and manifested that devotion through serving others. His callings in The Church included Bishop, President of the San Luis Obispo Stake, President of the Canada Edmonton Mission, and President of the Los Angeles Temple. He was a great example of Christ-like charity, unconditional love and devoted service. Richard is survived by his wife; brother, Rolf; sister, Beryl; four sons and their wives; son-in-law, Dan Wallo (Kim); 24 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. The family will receive attendees at 9:30 a.m., with a funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, at the LDS Church, 651 E. Foothill Blvd. in San Luis Obispo.
