On October 30, 2013 we lost our beloved angel on earth, Julie Anne Escoto-Munoz. She fought a courageous battle for nearly two years against pancreatic cancer. She is now an angel in heaven. Julie was born in June 1970 in Berkeley, Calif., to Joe and Maggie Munoz. She grew up in San Luis Obispo and was a fun loving big sister to Mike. Her huge laugh and joyful spirit created a multitude of friendships that have lasted a lifetime and more. She spent many happy years at the beach and the pool, and began her spiritual journey at the SLONaz youth group- a journey that lasted until her death. She graduated from SLOHS in 1988 and was voted Best Laugh. Julie spent her college years at UC Davis and graduated with a Masters in Social Work from Sacramento State. She went on to join the Peace Corps in Honduras in 1994, where she met her first love Jimmy; they were married in 2000. After her return, she was a dedicated Reunification Supervisor for Sacramento County for many years. She loved her work helping families, and her positive spirit touched many people (peers and clients alike) in often difficult situations. Her greatest joy of all was her family. Julie was the most amazing mother to her two children, Gabriela (age 8) and Diego (age 7). Her most important role in life was cut too short, but her profound love for her children was an inspiration to witness. Julie was ready to celebrate any and all important moments, big and small. She loved holidays and made a point to celebrate family traditions with gusto, color and life. Halloween was a favorite time, and she was hoping to join her entire family in their homemade minion costumes this year. She held her niece and nephews close to her heart; time spent with family was her delight. She shared a special bond with her mother Maggie, whose premature passing heightened Julie's desire to savor every moment with her loved ones. Julie was preceded in death by her grandparents and her mother. We will forever miss her joyful, positive, forgiving, tenacious, generous, accepting, genuine, courageous, gracious spirit, and especially her infectious laugh. There are truly not enough words to express how Julie has touched our lives. A Celebration of her Life is planned for 1 p.m., Saturday, Dec.14, 2013, at Real Life Church's Artisan Building, 1901 Del Paso Blvd., Sacramento CA 95815. (916) 288-7757 A Benefit Memorial fund has been created to assist with Julie's memorial and family needs.
