Anne Medvedoff Obituary

Anne Culbert Medvedoff passed away Monday, Oct. 18, 2010, leaving us longing for her infectious laugh, steadfast encouragement, wondrous culinary chops and ferocious hugs. Anne was born in Gardena, Calif., in September 1951 to Virginia and Elwain Culbert, and the family moved to a ranch outside Paso Robles when Anne was four years old. Anne, a 1969 graduate of Paso Robles High, cherished a lifetime of friendships, mischief-making and family gatherings in homes she adorned across San Luis Obispo County. Anne and her attorney husband, David L. Medvedoff, began their life together in Cambria in the 1980s when Anne was the owner/broker at McLean Realty. At a time when Tupperware parties were the rage, Anne became a local hero for hosting the first "pleasure party" in the town - just one example of her enduring enthusiasm for spitting in the eye of social convention and having fun! A sophisticated and generous hostess, her home was the center of extended Medvedoff family life for holidays, football watching and birthday celebrations. Each occasion merited its own unique color scheme, decorations and delicious feast. The love flowed, conversations were raucous and Anne''s bitingly quick wit earned howls of recognition and laughter at the first sign of pomposity or seriousness from anyone! Anne is survived by her husband, David Medvedoff; daughter, Molly; son, Daniel; stepsons Mike (Sandy), Steve (Kate) and Brian (DeeDee). She was predeceased by her mother, Virginia Perry Culbert; father, Elwain "Buck" Culbert; and stepson, Chris Medvedoff. Friends and family are invited to join in a farewell to Anne at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 18, 2010, at the base of the Cayucos Pier.

It is with a heavy heart that I sign this guest book for Aunt Anne. I have fond memories of visits to Cambria and SLO - Anne's infectious laugh, her quick wit and her love of home and family remain with me. I recall the smells of fresh herbs, lavender and dried roses when entering her home. She loved her children and my uncle fiercly. Though her life ended too young, I will remember her as she lived - lovingly, with an open heart and a fierce committment to family. May the memory of her love for you Molly, Danielle, Bri, Steve and Mike, surface and hold you up as you make your way forward with out her. You are in my heart.

It is with a heavy heart that I am writing this. Aunt Anne was such a funny, warm and loving woman. I can recall first meeting her when Matt an I were just married. It was in her home in Cambria. It smelled like lavender and other fresh herbs and wasdecorated so beautifully. I recall her humor and her openess. She brought warmth and love to her home and took care of my cousins and uncle with a brave and open heart. My kids recall nothing but fun times when we visited you Bri, Steve, Molly and Daniel at your parent's home in SLO. May those memories surface and hold you up in your times of sorrow. Remember that we are all out here for you and that the life your mama had was made all ther richer with you all in it. She had a wonderful life though tragically cut short.
You are in my heart.

Anne was a customer of mine for years, at both the bookstores I worked for. It was always a pleasure to see her bright presence, and share in some laughter. I am so sorry for you, Molly, and your brother. I know you will carry her lightness on, as your spirit ROCKS also. Feel my supportive embrace~ Lorelei Eggli

When we brought our (then) 11-year grandaughter Robin out to California from Kansas City for a visit, we hit the road and stopped in SLO, spending a day at the beach in Cayucos. Anne got us all wet suits and did everything to make sure we had a great time. When Robin got back to KC, she told her parents that the day in Cayucos was the best day of her life.

In the 33 years I knew Anne, I never heard her say an ill word about anyone nor did I ever see her get angry at anyone. Also thanks Anne for letting me drive your Fiat when I needed a ride. You had a generous spirit. Sandy and I will miss you.

With love and sadness I send my sympathy to all the Medvedoffs. Anne was my brother's loving wife and a sister to me. This candle represents the light, love and beauty always found in their home.

Anne was the most rascally, loving, earthy, artistic, creative woman I have ever known.....I just figured we would have plenty of time to say hello in the years to come so being the ultimate procrastinator, I just kept Anne's cell number and thought we would do lunch one day....I was stunned to hear she had passed away....With much love and good memories....Hilary K. Young...(Your Dad's ever vigilant secretary!!!)

I have delightful memories of Anne as she brought the little ones into the office. She always made the day a little easier because of her humor. She cared so deeply about how the children were doing. You will all be in my thoughts and prayers.
