Ernest Tripke Obituary

Ernest G. "Ernie" Tripke, 88, died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2010, at Cabrillo Care Center. For 65 years, he was the dedicated and devoted husband to his wife, Harriett Tripke, who still resides in the skilled nursing facility where they both lived until he passed. He was a proud father of two children and a caring grandfather of two grandsons. With unfortunate fate, his only granddaughter predeceased him in 2009. Ernie was a U.S. Navy man during World War II, having served his time as an airplane mechanic. After the War, he joined the California Highway Patrol, where he served in many areas around the state of California. He took his family with him wherever he went and retired as Captain of the CHP in San Luis Obispo. Ernie was a most respected, loyal, friendly and dedicated man in all walks of life. He was a legend - a man bigger than life itself. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Dear Daddy: I know I told you a million and one times, but you were my hero. If I could have hand-picked a father, I couldn''t have chosen a better one. When they made you, they broke the mold. I just want you to know how much I love you, and I will carry my wonderful memories of our relationship with me throughout my life. With all my love forever, your daughter, Julie

Julie, I was saddened to hear about your dad. Your tribute sparked renewed feelings in me since it has been almost 4 years since I too said goodbye to my dad. We were both fortunate to have had our daddys with us for such a long time. I am sure he treasured you as much, or more, than you treasured him. May God be with you and your loved ones at this time. -fondly, cretia

A long time ago, I remember coming over to play on Division Street in King City...the cruiser was parked on the street and I would knock on the door and this big dude in a uniform would answer. I knew right then that I would behave at your house. Of course as we grew up, I learned just how kind your Dad was...my thoughts and prayers are with you.

It was sad to hear of the passing of my Uncle Ernie, but I know that he is in a better place. I am sure that his grand-daughter Kimberly is showing him around heaven. He will always be thought of and loved the remainder of my life.

Dear Julie and family, you know how much Ernie ment to me. He was the one that guided me during my real growing-up years. I remember all the GOOD times we had together. He and Harriet always remained my friends.
Ernie taught me so many things during our time together. He was such a strong, great man. He also was my Hero and Mentor. I will always be grateful for his influence on my life. Without Ern, I don't know where I would be now.
