Jane Anderson Obituary

Jane Louise Anderson passed away peacefully Saturday, Oct. 2, 2010, with her loving family by her side in San Jose, Calif. She was born in August 1921 in San Francisco, Calif. She attended San Francisco State University and Heald Business College. She worked for the U.S. Department of the Navy during World War II, where she met the love of her life, Richard Anderson - they were married for 60 years. Jane and Dick moved to San Luis Obispo in 1947 when Dick accepted a position at Cal Poly. Jane loved living in San Luis and became very involved in life there as well as at Cal Poly. During her 62 years there she made many lifetime friends. We often said there were few people in town she didn''t know. She was active and volunteered in many areas including the Cal Poly Wives Club, International Students Organization, Mission Mothers Club, the Children''s Home Society and San Luis Dance Club. Her most important volunteer work was at the Old Mission Church. She was an active part of the Altar Society and was a Eucharistic Minister for several years. She also spent countless hours with the Cal Poly Newman Center as a Lady Ambassador. Jane is survived by sister-in-law, Edith B. Anderson; children Patty Dalton (Ken), Barbara Colyar (Bob) and Russ (Lois); seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, 2010, at Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church, 221 Daly Ave. in San Luis Obispo. In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to the Dick Anderson Swimming Endowment, Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, CA 93407-0450, or Vitas Hospice, 39899 Balentine Dr. Suite 161, Newark, CA 94560 or www.vitascharityfund.org.

Patty, Barbara and Russ;
Growing up in the neighborhood, and only two doors away, it was a special pleasure when I would get the occasion to talk with your Mom and Dad. Naturally, they always left me with a kind word and warm feeling. Since moving away from SLO and not keeping in touch with the goings on, it was with a deep feeling of sadness mixed with joy knowing she was now back with Dick.
It seems she really took pride in what you three have accomplished, and the joy she must have felt with all those grand and great-gtrand kids extending the legacy. A special thought and prayer goes out to you all.
With deep sympathy,
James Horn

Dear Anderson family:
Jane's memorial was just like her...warm and funny with a touch of sadness that her like will not be on this earth again.
The Poly students will miss their party girl...She is the Valient Woman of Proverbs 31...Her children rise up to praise her; her husband sits at heaven's gate...her children are doubly clothed and she laughs at the days to come.
I will light a candle in her honor Monday on All Saints Day and ask her for help for this crazy world...she has connnections to the Big Guy in the sky.l

Jane was one of the very first to welcome us into the Old Mission family some 40+ years ago and we absolutely adored her evermore! Deepest condolences to Jane's entire family. We will miss her smiling face and warm hugs. She was, indeed, one of God's very special angels on earth.

Jane was my patient for close to 28 years. I was sad to see her smiling up from the obituary page. She was always so positive and upbeat, it was a delight to be her doctor. My thoughts go out to you at this time.

Patty, Barbara, Russell, and families: i was saddened to read of Jane's passing. She was truly such a special person. She absolutely emanated energy, positivity, and generosity. As Bruce Tedone mentioned, she was genuinely interested in what her friends were doing. There was not a disingenuous bone in that wonderful lady's body. It was impossible to come away from a conversation with Jane and not feel terrifically uplifted! And, as you know, she was very, very proud of her children!! Your families are in our prayers.

Dear Patty,Barbara, Russell and families,
I feel like I have lost my Mom. Jane was such a special person and my Mom's best friend. There are so many memories. Jane and your Dad will be in my heart forever. It is hard to believe that we are in this stage of our lives. My husband is very ill so I will not be able to attend the service. My thoughts and prayers will be with you all. Love, Michele & Family

Jane Anderson has to be on any list of people who helped make the greatest generation truly great. Her enthusiasm for life is something I have tried to emulate. She genuinely cared in what I was doing far more than I usually do. It would make my day to have her ask: "how are you doing?" She really wanted to know the answer. I will miss her.

The list of people who made the greatest generation great would not be complete without including Jane Anderson. Her interest in everybody radiated throughout San Luis Obispo. She seemed more interested in what I was doing than I usually am. It would make my day whenever I was able to have Mrs. Anderson greet me with her usual "how are you." She genuinely cared about my answer. She will be missed.

In 1966, our girl group starting visiting the Harden's after Michele moved home from Cal Poly. It turned out to be a treat as we got to know the Harden family and Dorothy's best, fabulous friend, Jane. It was always a treat to be with Jane. She was beautiful, spunky, so full of joy, and those sparkling eyes were absolutely captivating. A few years later I met you Patty, through Ken. I knew Ken pretty well at the time. "Mr. Charisma" (as I always think of him) knew exactly what he wanted to find...someday...in a wife, from outer appearance to inner values. It seemed he found it all in you, Patty, and it was such a treat to meet you because, you had all those qualities I so admired in your Mom, right down to the sparkling eyes. I will remember her fondly always. Much love and aloha, Corky

May I extend my deepest sympathies for your loss. Jane was an angel here on earth. She always had a ready smile and an awesome outlook on life, a joy to have as a client and even more joyous to pray with....the Lord has a great new member on His staff. She brought me a pair of earrings from her travels and now they become even more precious than before. May the many prayers ease the pain in yours hearts.

My heart is aching over the loss of this lovely lady. She was one of my very favorite Mission people and a wonderful supporter of Alpha (one of our best Pledge Drive callers). She will understand if I can't get to the Mass on Saturday, because Alpha is putting on the GranFondo, & I'm scheduled to be out on the road asisting cyclists all day. I know she'll be looking down on us with her beautiful smile, and I'll be thinking of her!
