Jerome Ottoson Obituary

Jerome M. Ottoson, 69, of Grover Beach, passed away peacefully Saturday, Nov. 13, 2010, after a brief illness. Jerry was born in Evanston, Ill., in 1941, to Marie and Roy Ottoson, the fourth of five rambunctious boys. He was raised on the Central Coast and attended Mission College Preparatory in San Luis Obispo, where he graduated in 1960. Jerry attended Cal Poly, and was drafted into the Army soon after his senior year of college. He was stationed at Fort Belvoir, Va., for a majority of his military service. After completing his service, Jerry returned to San Luis Obispo, where he continued working for the county Probation Department. Through probation he met his wife, Belinda, and they were married in 1986. After 30 years with the Probation Department, Jerry retired and moved with his wife to Grover Beach where they enjoyed spending time with their children, grandchildren and close friends. Jerry will be fondly remembered as wonderful husband, thoughtful father, loving papa, and dear friend. His humor, wit and kindness will live on in all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Jerry is survived by his wife, Belinda; brother Tom Ottoson; step-children Norma Bernert, Alison Deveraux (Ryan), Ronda Bryson and John Bryson; 8 grandchildren; as well numerous life long friends. He was preceded in death by his father Roy; mother Marie; and brothers, Don, Skip and Ralph. A private memorial service will be held in Los Osos on Wednesday, November 17, 2010, and a public tribute toast will take place immediately afterwards at 12:30 pm at McCarthy''s Pub in San Luis Obispo. In lieu, the family requests that you make a donation in Jerry''s name to the Hospice Partners of the Central Coast or your favorite charity.

Jerry (or Papa, as I always called you),
you were the best grandfather anyone could ever ask for. It has been almost 10 years since your passing and your absence is felt every single day. There are so many things I wish I could talk to you about. I simply do not have the words to describe how much and how deeply I miss you. I have nothing but good memories of you and I hope wherever you’re at you know how loved you are. I’d give anything to just hug you one last time. Happy birthday Papa.

My Dear Belinda. I am sadden and shocked to hear of the loss of Jerry. He was a wonderful man. He always had a smile and wonderful sense of humor. I so enjoyed working with both of you. You made the perfect couple. Remember the good times and years you spent with Jerry. May God hold you and your family in his loving arms.

Jerry,
You were an amazing father and a doting papa. Your good humor and kindness brought you many friends throughout your life. Your positive personality affected all around you, and we are all better people for having you in our lives. I love you so much, thank you for giving me the honor of calling you dad.

Since I have know Jerry for over a half a century, I can honestly say that there is no nicer, gentler, caring guy walking the streets of SLO town. Always a chuckle and something nice to say. Will be missed !!!!!! Steve Boyle
