John Emerson Gleason, 26, of Santa Margarita, passed away Saturday, Aug. 10, 2013. "Johnny" was born in July 1987 in Templeton and lived in Atascadero, where he attended Monterey Road Elementary, Atascadero Junior High School and Atascadero High School. In the last 13 years, he had lived in Santa Margarita and attended Cuesta College. He graduated with two associate degrees in transfer studies. Johnny was involved in band, 4-H, football, and while in FFA, was the treasurer for two years. He restored two tractors in the JB Dewar Tractor Restoration Competition at the Mid-State Fair, and had attended the FFA competition in Indiana, where he placed second in the nation. He was also active in many outings with his family and friends, including fishing, hiking, horseback riding, traveling and camping. Johnny, a lifelong Catholic, attended St. William's Parish in Atascadero, where he was an alter server, as well as Santa Margarita De Cortona and San Luis Mission, where he was involved with the young adult group. Johnny was a gentle and caring person, who always had a smile on his face and was well liked by everyone who knew him. Johnny is survived by his parents, John and Karen Gleason of Santa Margarita; brother, Nathan Gleason of Santa Margarita; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Gene E. Gleason; and maternal grandparents, Bob and Mary Hoyt, all of Atascadero. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., with the recitation of the rosary at 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug, 16, 2013, at the Chapel of the Roses, 3450 El Camino Real in Atascadero. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug, 17, 2013, at the Santa Margarita De Cortona Catholic Church, 22515 H St. in Santa Margarita, with burial to follow immediately at the Atascadero Cemetery. A celebration of life gathering will be held throughout the day after services at the Gleason residence in Santa Margarita. Contact the mortuary for details.
