Norinne Catherine Sutherland was born in November 1934 in Brooklyn, N.Y., and left this earth to join Jesus Wednesday, April 2, 2014, in San Luis Obispo, surrounded by family and friends. Norinne graduated from Franklin K Lane High School in Brooklyn. She worked for several companies during her working career, TRW, Cognitive Solutions and the County of San Luis Obispo, while raising her family. She loved to play games and spent many happy hours playing card games and Scrabble. She was an avid Bingo player and went to Chumash Casino many times with her friend, Donna. She would also meet her sister from New York, Genny, in Las Vegas for Bingo Marathons. As a young girl in New York, she played basketball and was a member of the City Championship League. In 1967, Norinne and her family moved from New York to Paso Robles, where they resided until 1972, when they moved to San Luis Obispo. She had many friends with whom she kept in contact through lunches, phone calls and Facebook. Until the very end Norinne was giving words of wisdom to her children and grandchildren'?stay healthy, do not drink or smoke, do your homework, study hard. She was loved and will be missed more than words can say. Norinne has a very large family, all who loved her dearly. She offered words of encouragement and advice to many of them who called on her. She had a green thumb and liked plants and flowers and had a kind word for everyone. Norinne is survived by her sister, Genevieve McPike of Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; daughters Leonore Woolpert (Orren Euler), Penny Lorton (Rudy), Nancy Sutherland; sons Leonard Sutherland Jr. (Tara), Thomas Sutherland (Kathryn) and Steven Sutherland (Dava). She is also survived by her former husband, Leonard Sutherland Sr.; grandchildren Michael Sutherland (Jessica), Trisha Walker (Thomas), Randi Arnett (Seth), Derrick Sutherland (Amanda), Jonathon Arnett, Joseph Sutherland (Audrianna), Jessica Garcia (Cole), Cassandra Lorton, Cecelia Broster (Mark), Shelbi Cannon (Steve), Kelsey Cannon, Brandon Blodgett (LaShawna), Ashley Sutherland and Alyssa Sutherland. She is further survived by her great-grandchildren Ashley, Yohannes and Olivia Walker, Alicia and Michael Sutherland, Russell and Hannah Broster, Diana Maddux, Alissa Crane, Jayden, Caroline and Cheyenne Bean and Rylee Lorton; along with 58 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Helen Kearney; seven siblings; daughters Susan Sutherland and Catherine Liebman; son, Michael Sutherland; sons-in-law Richard Liebman, James Garcia and Scott Woolpert; daughter-in-law, Stephanie Sutherland; and six nieces and nephews.
