Shirley Williams, 86, of Los Osos, passed away Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013, with her family and beloved, Keyta by her side. She lost her brief, but courageous battle with cancer. Shirley was born in December 1926, the second child of Ralph and Pauline Tucker. The family moved from Wichita, Kan., to Van Nuys, Calif., in 1939. While in high school, Shirley met her future husband, Bruce Williams. Bruce joined the U.S. Navy and was deployed overseas from 1941 to 1944. After his return, he and Shirley were married in 1947. They raised two wonderful children, Lindy and David. Years later, they also raised their two granddaughters, Jessi and Aja. Like many young families, they vacationed together and had many favorite spots. In the mid '60s, they moved to Belmont Shores, Calif., where they spent most of their idle time, enjoying the California beach life. When David and Lindy were in high school, Shirley went back to school and earned her nursing degree. She worked for Long Beach Memorial Hospital for 20 years and loved every minute of it. Shirley and Bruce moved to Los Osos in 2003 to be closer to family. Shirley was a very strong woman, until cancer decided her fate. She was loved by all and will be missed. Shirley's family: son, David and granddaughters Jessi and Aja; together with her nephew, Norman; and close family friend, Judy and her family, would like to give warm thanks to Tabatha at Central Coast Physician's Network and all of Shirley's friends at Morro Shores that made her laugh and smile. A special thank you goes out to all of the people from Wilshire Hospice for making Shirley's last days at home so comfortable. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce; and daughter, Lindy. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Shirley's name to the American Breast Cancer Society or Wilshire Hospice of San Luis Obispo.
