After a brief bout with cancer, Solveig Albertson Dahl passed away Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012, at her San Luis Obispo home, surrounded by her five loving children. Born in August 1927 in Fargo, N.D., she was a longtime resident of Glendale, Calif., where she attended both Toll Junior High and Hoover High School. She went on to St. Olaf College and the University of Minnesota. Solveig taught in the Burbank School District and was an active member of Grandview Presbyterian Church in Glendale for nearly 40 years. An avid reader, naturalist, documentarian, photographer, painter, Scrabble player, teacher, music lover, bird watcher and traveler, Solveig visited most of the national parks of the West, much of Europe and some of the Middle East during her lifetime. Deeply devoted to her large family, she imparted a love of art and the natural world to her children and grandchildren. Solveig is survived by her daughters Paula Huston (Mike) of Arroyo Grande; Gail Westberg (Dennis) of San Luis Obispo; Gretchen Steer (John) of Rochester, Minn.; and Christina Dahl (Richard Stout) of Cleveland Heights, Ohio; and son, Ronald Dahl (Karin Yamasaki) of Monrovia, Calif. Solveig''s remaining siblings include Hedwig Niemeyer, Muriel Bates, Arne Albertson, and Pauline Fagre; as well as nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle G. Dahl; and granddaughter, Kirstie Steer. A private service will be held and Solveig will be buried at the Los Osos Valley Memorial Park. During the spring of 2013, a memorial service, including a piano concert by her daughter, Christina Dahl, will be held in Glendale. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Central Coast Hospice in San Luis Obispo; or Lighthouse For The Blind, one of the many charities to which Solveig contributed. Condolence cards for the family can be sent to: Los Osos Valley Mortuary, P.O. Box 6190, Los Osos, CA 93412. Los Osos Valley Mortuary 528-1500 Los Osos
