Steve Rogers Obituary

Steve Rogers, 65, of Oceano, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2010. He was born in March 1945 in Owensbourgh, Ky. After completing high school, he attended San Bernardino Valley College night school to complete his required three years for a promotion to Journeyman in the Welders Union Local 364 in Colton, Calif. Steve was a pipe fitter-welder and handyman who could fix almost anything. Steve had a passion for anything outdoors. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. The first day of September most years, one would find him with family and friends in Blythe, Calif. for opening day of dove season. He also enjoyed going deer hunting in Chico, Calif. He liked to bowl and going to the state and National tournaments with his bowling buddies. He and his wife, Donna, loved living in the country and were residents of the Huasna Valley for nine years. He was an accomplished horseback rider and helped his rancher friends during cattle round-ups with the branding. Steve was a simple man who enjoyed swapping stories with friends. He enjoyed his grandchildren and always had a song to sing or a story to tell upon request. His trademarks were his cowboy boots and welder hats - the brighter the better. Steve is survived by his wife of 38 years, Donna Rogers; daughter, Roberta Kotsay (Wayne); granddaughter, Jasmine; son, Jeffrey Nanney (Penny); grandsons Christopher, Jeremy and Taylor Nanney; sister, Diana Kirby of Nebraska; nieces and nephews; and a large extended family. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Rogers; mother, Lena Lesta Rogers; and sisters Delores Lysland and Rita Ragland. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 5, 2010, at Marshall-Spoo Sunset Funeral Chapel, 1239 Longbranch Ave. in Grover Beach. Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to either the Heart or Diabetes Association. Marshall-Spoo 489-5552 Grover Beach
