Tom Nordskog Obituary

Tom Nordskog, 76, of Grover Beach, passed away after a courageous 22-month battle with oralpharangeal/lung cancer Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2010, at home, with his family. He will be remembered by his family with the greatest love and affection as a kind man. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was born in August 1934 in Chicago, Ill., and moved to California at a young age. Upon graduation from Covina High School in 1952, he joined the U.S. Army and served honorably with the 82nd airborne division as a Paratrooper. In 1956, upon discharge from the Army, Tom moved to Las Vegas, Nev., where he met and married the love of his life, Kaye Bryan, in 1957. They returned to California with their family in 1971 and have lived on the Central Coast for many years. Tom worked in the wholesale food industry for 50 years as a Beverage Manager and Sales Manager for Sysco Food Service, and later as a Salesman for AMK Food Service on the Central Coast. The family wishes to express their sincerest appreciation to Dr. David Palchak and his caring office staff Karen, Phea, Chrystal, Jennifer; and also the Hospice nurses and staff, for the excellent care Tom received during this difficult time. Tom is survived by his wife, Kaye of Grover Beach; daughters Lisa (Maurice) Munoz, Kim Bryan, Pamela (Michael) Manning and Julie Nordskog; grandchildren Megan Clayton, Wesley Kephart, Elise Kephart, J.J. Manning, Kyle Manning and Noah McCuistion; great-grandchildren Jenalee and Tobin Thomas; and sisters Linda Atkinson and Susan Norling. He was preceded in death by his parents, Myrtle and Albert Nordskog; brother, Lawrence Nordskog; and sisters Helen Berra and Marjorie Boyette. A private family celebration will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice Partners of the Central Coast, 277 S. St., Ste. R, San Luis Obispo, CA 93401.

To our kind and loving father. May we follow his example of taking the high road and always choosing to do what was good and right. He worked hard to provide us with a safe and happy place to call home and we will always be grateful. All our love to you Dad. We will miss you.
