Geraldine Miossi Powell passed away peacefully in the company of family at her home on Sunday, May 4, 2014. A second-generation San Luis Obispo County native, Geraldine recently celebrated two milestones '? her 80th birthday and 50th wedding anniversary. Geraldine was born in April 1934 to the late Emelia Elizabeth and Arthur Ellis Miossi. Along with her two siblings '? Arthur Gabriel Miossi and Margaret Henderson, she was blessed with a happy childhood growing up on the in Price Canyon Ranch where she developed her love of gardening, animals, the outdoors and family gatherings at the Miossi Brothers La Cuesta Ranch. She moved as a teen into the Pismo Beach home; the same home where she passed away. She attended high school in Arroyo Grande, Calif., where she excelled in athletics, art and music often singing as a soloist in the St. Paul The Apostle Catholic Church choir and high school assemblies. Following graduation in 1952, she attended San Luis Obispo Junior College the predecessor of Cuesta College where she graduated with an Associate of Arts degree and met her first husband Dell Hemingway. Their marriage produced four wonderful children '? René Hemingway-Ewell, Regine Hemingway-Garkovich, Dell Hemingway and Aaron Hemingway. From these children she welcomed into the world six grandchildren Samuel & Emelia Garkovich, Joshua Ewell, Niles Hemingway, Beau & Blake Hemingway and two great-children Grace and Samuel Garkovich. Her second marriage to Wallace Powell graced her with two children Jared Powell and Retta Guel and two more great-grandchildren Bella and Davante Guel, Geraldine was a consummate mother who involved her children in many activities such as Catechism, 4-H, Campfire, Boy Scouts of America, Girls Athletic Association, sports, dance, and music. She enjoyed her time when she could travel with her children and family visits. One of her vacations to Hawaii had many firsts including her first time on a jet, in a helicopter, and on a cruise ship. Her passions in life were her family, friends and flowers. Her kindness, laughter and love will be missed and her memory never forgotten. Viewings will take place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 7, 2014, at Reis Family Mortuary. A service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 8, 2014, at St. Paul The Apostle Catholic Church, 800 Bello Street, Pismo Beach. Burial will follow at Old Mission Catholic Cemetery concluding with a reception. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the
California Central Chapter.
