Dave Murray Obituary

On Wednesday, June 6, 2012, David W. Murray, 71, of Sacramento, entered into rest peacefully. Born in 1940 in St. Paul, Minn., he grew up in Visalia, Calif. He graduated from the College of the Sequoias and Fresno State University and earned his M.A. from Pepperdine University. In 1968, he moved to Arroyo Grande and taught at Grover Heights Elementary for 30 years. He retired from teaching in 1995. He enjoyed the study of biology, geography, astronomy and geology. Dave loved the outdoors and served at a YMCA camp and was active in the Boys Scouts of America. He completed Wood Badge, the most advanced training available for Scout leaders. He was an ordained elder in the Presbyterian Church USA. In 1999, Dave and Marlene, his wife of almost 50 years, moved to Sacramento, where he pursued his passion for science fiction and fantasy by joining the Warped Spacers, a writers'' group. He utilized his knowledge of California history as a tour guide at various State historic sites. Dave is survived by his wife Marlene; son, Will Murray; and sister, Lois Feleay (David). His parents, William Donald and Frances Murray, preceded him in death. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made on his behalf to the California State Parks Foundation at http://www.CalParks.org or The Nature Conservancy at http://www.Nature.org.
