Joshua Justin Davis Houlgate died in San Luis Obispo Thursday, Dec. 6, 2007, at the young age of 36. Josh was born in Santa Barbara in June 1971. Two years later Josh and his parents moved to Virginia, but returned to California in 1979. Josh was a wonderful young child, bright, imaginative, artistically talented and funny. As an adult he retained those qualities that often surprised and delighted his family and friends. It is hoped he will be remembered, as his parents do, for his moments of joy, his happy entrances, his generosity of spirit, and his artistic accomplishments. Josh was loved and admired by his many friends in San Luis Obispo.

Josh attended Community School, Baywood Elementary, Laguna Jr. High, Mission Preparatory and San Luis Obispo High School. He later attended Cuesta College

and graduated from Cal Poly in 1995 with a bachelor's degree in Social Sciences, writing an "A" senior project on early Irish history.

Although Josh had some difficult times as a young adult, in the last two years he had straightened out his life by gaining more education in such diverse fields as welding, art, and real estate law. Since the autumn of 2005 Josh lived and worked at the family home, giving generous help to his parents and grandmother. We are grateful for the time we have had

with him. He was our beautiful boy whom we loved deeply.

He is survived by his parents, Laurence Houlgate and Torre Houlgate-West; grandmother, Geneva Hallamore Hodge; his uncle and aunt Col. and Mrs. Jack Houlgate (ret.); Aunt Lin Lehmicke; and many cousins.

Contributions can be made in his name to Amnesty International, U.S.A.
