Resident of Aptos
Burton Oliver passed away on May 14 at his home in Aptos after a long illness. He is the beloved son of Phyllis Scott Oliver (deceased) and James Oliver (deceased), loving husband of Cindy Balbi Oliver, brother of Sandra Jordan (deceased) and Richard Oliver (deceased), father of Debra Bouler (Frank Romo), Stephen Oliver (Anita), Janene Pierce, and Laurie Huelga (Al), grandfather of Matthew Bouler, Karin Bouler, Jennifer Tucker (Ben), Brian Pierce (Jen), Ryan Oliver, Kevin Oliver, Peter Oliver, Monica Huelga and Brandon Huelga and great-grandfather of Gregory Tucker and Theodore Pierce. Burt was born in born in Mason City, Iowa on January 10, 1932. A longtime resident of Sacramento, he worked for the Sacramento Bee during which time he graduated from Sacramento State College. Burt subsequently worked for the State of California for 40 years, including the State Personnel Board, Employee Development Department, and California Judicial Council, retiring as Director of the State Board of Equalization in 1995. An avid fan of the 49ers and San Francisco Giants, Burt was known in all aspects of his life for his kindness, fairness and integrity. A private celebration of life will be planned at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any contributions be made to a favorite charity.
