Malcolm Atkins Obituary

Malcolm "Scott" Atkins
July 28, 1923 ~ August 21, 2013
Resident of Watsonville
Malcolm Lee "Scott" Atkins died August 21st of natural causes. He was 90 years old. Malcolm was born in Watsonville on July 28, 1923 to James M. and Nellye Atkins. He acquired the nickname "Scotty" in elementary school because of his Scottish heritage.
Scott graduated from King City High School in 1939 and then served in Burma, India and China (BIC) during World War II. Upon returning from WWII he married the love of his life, Angela Rodriguez. They had three children; Angela Terrie Winslow, Janet Balvin, and James.
Scott retired from the Watsonville Post Office in 1984. He enjoyed traveling to Europe, Hawaii, and Mexico with Angela. They chaperoned a middle school Jazz band as they traveled to Europe and Canada for yearly competitions. Their extended family assured plenty of birthdays, graduations, weddings, and reunions. Both Scott and Angie enjoyed the Arts.
Scott was proud of his military service and was a member of the VFW. He served as President of the Watsonville Senior Center and called Bingo for the seniors. Scott was an avid stamp collector, and loved spending time volunteering at the Pajaro Valley Historical Association.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years Angela Rodriguez Atkins, his son James Atkins, and sisters Mary Ellen Bramhall and Barbara Angell. He is survived by his daughters Angela "Terrie" Winslow and her husband George (La Selva Beach) and Janet Balvin and her husband Lance (Watsonville), his grandson Scott Winslow (Lompico) and his granddaughter Claudia Schneider and her husband Josh (La Selva Beach) and his two great-grandchildren Arianna and Kiley Schneider and his brothers Norman Atkins and partner Fil Valdez(Visalia) and Loren Atkins (Montana).
In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to Hospice of Santa Cruz County, 940 Disc Dr. Scotts Valley, CA 95066.
A memorial Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Patrick's Church, Watsonville, CA on Friday the 30th at 10:00 a.m. Mehl's Colonial Chapel was entrusted with funeral arrangements.

Scott was a wonderful person and I will never forget him. I've been very luck to have had the Atkins family in my family for many years.
