Former resident of Santa Cruz
Ronald F. Dameron died July 12, 2013, at the age of 82. Surviving him are his wife of 61 years, Leona Dameron; sons Dan (Gayle) and Bob (Tina) Dameron, and daughter Diane (Rick) Allen; eight grandchildren and one great-grandson. Also surviving Ron are a brother, Harvey Kingery, three sisters, Ruth DeSando, Joan Lewis, and Harriett Marriott, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ron was born in Turlock, CA. He taught high school in Ontario, CA, before moving to Santa Cruz as the first vice principal of Soquel High School. He opened Harbor High School as principal in 1968 and stayed until 1977. Dr. Dameron then moved to Galt CA, as superintendent of the high school district until his retirement in 1985. After retirement, Ron and Leona spent two years teaching English at colleges for teachers in China. They led Habitat for Humanity summer builds in Montana, Alaska, and New Mexico, and completed two Habitat homes in Galt. Ron was a Rotarian for more than 40 years and an active member in local United Methodist Churches throughout his life. He received a Bishop's Award for service in the United Methodist Church and the District Governor's Rotarian Community Service Award.
A memorial service is planned at Galt United Methodist Church Sunday, July 21, at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Parkinson Association or the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR).

Dr.Dameron helped shape four of six Zenners. The "still" strong ties of the classes he led at Harbor can be attributed to his leadership in the tumultuous, early 70s. Our prayers and condolences go out to the family along with our appreciation for all he did for us. God rest his soul.

Harbor High could not have had a better man to help open the school. I'm sure I speak for all former students from Harbor in saying he was well-liked, fair, and intellectual, making him a great leader. My condolences to his family, especially Dan.
