Cleo Becker left this earth on May, 18 after a brief struggle with ALS. She is survived by her son Richard Becker, daughter Donna Becker and son-in-law Gary Merrill, her beloved grandchildren Matt Merrill and Katie Merrill, her great grandchild Siena Merrill, her brother Merwin Peterson and nieces and nephews.
Cleo, of Norwegian descent, was born in International Falls, Minnesota on October 20, 1920. She graduated Little Fork High School. She joined the Women's Army Corp on November 11, 1942 and served in England and France during World War II
. She worked in a munitions factory and at various printing related jobs. When young she loved to dance and play softball and basketball.
Cleo was a homemaker and mother, establishing 10 homes as she and her husband of 64 years, Fred Becker lived in Minnesota, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Florida and California. Wherever they lived they created strong communities of friends. They traveled together through 49 states, England and the Caribbean. Cleo and Fred loved crafts, cooking together and their rural Florida home. Cleo was a life-long member of the VFW
and was a dedicated member of the Mease Hospital Auxiliary in Dunedin Florida. With friends and family members, Cleo just completed a quilt of hand embroidered state flowers - a project she began at age 90.
