A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2012 at 2:30pm at Pacific Garden Chapel, 1050 Cayuga St Santa Cruz. Ivan Glen Parker passed away in his sleep on the morning of October 6, 2012. He was 93.
Ivan was born in Big Springs, Nebraska, to Diton Jason Parker and Alvena Holtorf Parker on a wheat farm. An intelligent boy, he graduated in from high school in 1935, just before his 16th birthday.
He enlisted in the Navy in 1942 and served in New Guinea for most of WW2 as a Chief Mechanic.
In 1945 Ivan married Luella Minnie Herren in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. They had met in San Francisco before he shipped out.
Ivan began his studies in Engineering at Valparaiso University, Indiana. A son was born in 1946. He completed his degree at the University of Washington, Seattle. A daughter followed in 1948. The family moved to Santa Cruz in 1952. Ivan worked for the City of Santa Cruz in the Water Department until 1962 when he started his own business. A daughter was born in 1955. Ivan was a working Civil Engineer until he was 80.
Ivan is survived by his children Randall (Ardeth) Parker, Nina Parker and Robin (Bruce) Larsen, his granddaughter Sophia Larsen. Ivan was predeceased by his wife in 2002.
