Ray was born in Turlock, CA although raised in Santa Cruz. He attended Holy Cross Elementary and graduated from Santa Cruz High. During high school he enjoyed track and was a member of the Road Runner Car Club. After high school he enlisted in the US Navy and served his country for 3 years. Once out of the service he married and had two daughters. Later he attended the University of Oregon and graduated as a Proud Duck. He then worked as Vice President/ CFO for several non-profit organizations in the Silicon Valley. Ray also enjoyed coaching his daughters' softball league for many years.
He always held the belief that we should all give back to our communities and was an active member of the San Jose Kiwanis. He relocated to Yachats on the Oregon coast 12 years ago and served as Secretary for the Waldport Kiwanis as well as being a Counselor for the City of Yachats Public Works & Streets Commission. He enjoyed his community involvement there and was even voted "Man of the Year."
Ray passed away in Oregon after suffering multiple debilitating strokes in recent years. He is survived by his daughters Mary Meehan Martin, Dawn Meehan Martin; granddaughters Shawndell Hodap Martin and Moira Martin; and his sisters Laurine Sgambati and Mary Bennett, both of Santa Cruz.
No formal services are planned. His ashes will be scattered in the places he loved so much: Oregon and Santa Cruz. He will always be remembered for his hearty laugh, quick humor and kindness. Ray enjoyed life immensely and will be missed.
