Alene Marie "Ali" Hoga

Alene "Ali" Marie Hoga passed away on July 21, 2009 after a very short, but courageous battle with cancer. She was 43 years old. Alene was born on July 24, 1965 to Albert and Grace Hoga. She was raised in Santa Cruz and attended local schools. She lived most of her life in Santa Cruz, as well as a few years in Colorado. Alene started working in the fast food business as a teenager and became a manager quickly. Throughout her life she managed many different businesses and recently learned the art of dog grooming which she enjoyed immensely.

Alene was always a "water baby". She especially loved swimming and waterskiing and her most recent passion was scuba diving. She earned her Master Diver Certification while living in Colorado and hoped to be an instructor some day. Alene loved dolphins & especially enjoyed vacations in Kauai. She bought her beautiful Harley Davidson motorcycle during one trip to Kauai and shipped it home to Santa Cruz, where she enjoyed riding it.

Alene lived life to the fullest. She was always there to help anyone that needed it, and was loved and respected by the many people whose lives she touched. We are all better people for having Alene in our lives and we are forever grateful for the time we had with her.

Alene is survived by her parents, Grace Hoga, and Albert Hoga; her sisters, Alanna Maldonado Javier, and Antoinette "Toni" Condon Edward; her brother Benjamin Hoga Anita; her beloved puppy, Sage Marie Hoga; and her dear friend, Mark Rowell. She is also survived by 4 nieces, 5 nephews, 3 aunts, 3 uncles, and 2 grand-nephews. Alene loved her family very much and spent as much time at possible with her nephews, Ricky, Danny, Jake, Josh, and Joey and her nieces, Rachelle, Cassey, Jessey, and Kaileykielle.

A Celebration of Alene's Life and Freedom will be held on August 9, 2009 at the Portuguese Hall CPDES, 216 Evergreen St. in Santa Cruz, beginning at 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Alene's Memory to the Santa Cruz County Animal Services, 2200 7th Ave., Santa Cruz, Ca 95062-1631. Arrangements are under the direction of Benito & Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel in Santa Cruz.
