Hugh Johnston Obituary

Hugh Samuel Johnston Dec. 3, 1936 - Jan 6, 2013 Resident of Watsonville Hugh Samuel Johnston, Attorney at Law. Better known to his friends as Mike. Born 12/3/1936, he passed peacefully on January 6, 2013 with his loving wife Joan by his side. He leaves his wonderful son Brennan Johnston, which Mike had a very close bond with. Mike was very proud of all of Brennan's many accomplishments. Daughter Liz King was her dad's favorite girl; every spring he would plant Busy Lizies in her honor. Twin grandchildren Christopher King and Amanda King also held a very special place in his heart. Mike loved his little dog buddy, and I know buddy will miss Mike very much. Hugh entered the U.S. Army Security Agency in 1960 and went to the Monterey Language School where he learned to speak Chinese Mandarin for Special Operations Command. After returning from a tour of duty in Okinawa, Japan, Hugh practiced law in Santa Cruz County for 33 years. He was a fine Attorney, helping many people with their legal issues. Mike was also an accomplished musician and played in the Hot Dam String Band. He was the lead singer and played at many of the local events, such as the Fiesta, Corn Roast, Book Shop Santa Cruz, Roaring Camp and Wilder Ranch events. Blue Grass and Gospel were the types of music he loved to play and sing, and what an amazing voice he had. Mike had many friends and most recently Ray Abbott & Bunny were his constant companions. Mike's quick wit and fun loving ways will be remembered by all that knew him. Please join us in the celebration of Mike's life on Jan. 12, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. located at 1355 Madison St., Watsonville. 831-761-9923
