John Gansel Obituary

John Harlow Gansel
Jan. 19, 1926-Sep. 9, 2012
Resident of Aptos
John was born on January 19, 1926 to John Ernest Gansel and Alice (Borger) Gansel in Alma Center, Wisconsin. Upon completing High School he attended Junior College in Independence, Kansas. He married his soul mate, Dixie Theiler on August 23, 1949. He worked on the family farm for a short time in Wisconsin and he then built houses in Eau Claire, WI.
He entered the Army in 1953 and was stationed in CA and Texas. Upon getting out of the service, he and Dixie came to CA, and enjoyed many good years. They recently observed their 63rd wedding anniversary.
John was employed at the Ford Plant in San Jose and later at General Electric for 20 years. They retired to Aptos in 1980 where John pursued his passion for golf and fishing. He had 3 holes in one, which was proof of his persistence.
During his retirement years he and Dixie traveled to many parts of the world. John enjoyed all the birds and wild life in his back yard. He always had a pocket full of peanuts for his favorite blue jay.
John was an active member of the St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Aptos. He was preceded in death by his two brothers, George and Charles. John leaves behind his wife Dixie, his sister Alice, his nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 15th at 2 pm at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Aptos. Contributions may be made in John's name to St. Andrew Church, 9850 Monroe Ave., Aptos, CA 95003.
