John Odom Obituary

John Peyton Odom, Sr.
Feb. 17, 1925 - Jan. 10, 2013
Resident of Watsonville, CA / Garden City, MI
John Peyton Odom Sr. was born nearly 88 years ago in Doniphan, MO, eldest of four siblings. He died peacefully at home early last Thursday morning, adoring wife at his side, following a pleasant day spent visiting with his family.
John was a decorated WWII veteran, enlisted in the Navy at age 17, and served on board the USS Yorktown. He was an electrician by trade, and a Mason in good standing through Garden City Builders Lodge No. 587, Michigan. John and Betty Louise were married on Aug. 3, 1946 and were blessed with four beautiful children. The family enjoyed many fun-filled years together both in Michigan and after moving to Santa Cruz, California in 1961.
John was a beloved husband, loving father, Papa, and friend. He will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by Betty his wife of 67 years, his children Susan Carolyn DiOrio of Aptos and John Peyton Odom, Jr. (Chip) and wife Heidi of Santa Cruz, his six grandchildren Michele, Melissa, Cody, Trevor, Alexa, Dylan, and his great grandson Wylie, born just three weeks ago. With his passing he will enjoy a heavenly reunion with his two eldest children, Sharon Ann (d. 1967) and Michael John (d. 1961).
Please join John's family and closest friends for a Celebration of his Life on Jan. 19, 2013, 2:00 PM, at Valley Heights, 925 Freedom Boulevard, Watsonville, CA. The family will hold a private gathering at a later date for John's internment and full military burial at Santa Cruz Oakwood Memorial Cemetery.

Those we love don't go away,
They walk beside us every day,
Unseen, unheard, but always near,
Still loved, still missed and very dear.
(Hugs) to you Uncle Johnny. I Love you.
