Shirley Schieffer Obituary

Shirley J. Schieffer
January 26, 1929 - November 10, 2012
Resident of Scotts Valley
Shirley J. Schieffer, 83, passed from this life on November 10th, 2012. Born in Denver, CO on January 26th, 1929 she moved to California with her family as a young girl. Following graduation from high school she settled in San Francisco where she worked in an insurance office. In 1948 she met her future husband, Jerome (Jerry) Schieffer. They were married on June 18th, 1950 and in 1952 moved to Ben Lomond where they raised their family.
Shirley was a kind hearted person and always showed concern for others. She was a devoted wife and a loving mother. She most enjoyed spending time with her family and took great pride in having raised four strong children. She enjoyed shopping and would often pick up small gifts for others.
She moved to Scotts Valley in 2002 and enjoyed living in the Spring Lakes Park community; It was such a luxury having a thermostat for instant heat after heating the family home primarily with wood for fifty years. We have loving memories of her with her back facing the small wall heater while drinking her coffee in the cold early mornings of our childhoods.
She is survived by her daughter, Rosemarie Manley, son, Steven Schieffer and his partner Angela Brint, daughter, Lois Schwab and her husband Frank, daughter, Marilyn Raffaelli and her husband Thomas, grandchildren, Jerry Petersen and his wife Dawn, Jesse Petersen, John Manley and his wife Sarah, Scott and Tracy Schieffer, Pete Schwab, Lina and Alyssa Raffaelli and great grandchildren Tierra and Kaylie Manley. She is also survived by her loving sisters, Betty Swinyard and Ruth Sexton and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, her parents, George and Ruth Duncan, her brother, Roger Duncan and her sister Phyllis Paulle.
A memorial service honoring Shirley's life will be celebrated at Oakwood Memorial Chapel, 3301 Paul Sweet Rd (adjacent to Dominican Hospital) on Saturday, November 17th at 1:00 PM. A reception will follow.
For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made in Shirley's name to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation which raises funds for breast cancer research, 26 O'Farrell St, Suite 900, San Francisco CA 94108.
