A Celebration of Life Service is being held for Alvin B Dyck AND Catherine H "Darlene" Dyck on Saturday July 14th, 2018. They were married May 18, 1950 and had been married for 66 years at the time of Al's passing. Over the years their life and commitment to each other was a testimony of their love for their Lord, Jesus Christ, as well as their love for each other and for their families.
Alvin B Dyck was born Mar 13, 1928 in Great Deer Saskatchewan Canada to the late Benjamin and Marie (Willems) Dyck. He was the sixth child of eight. He is preceded in death by his brothers; Ben, Walter, Menno and John and sisters Clara, and Alma Neufeld. He is survived by his brother Clarence and sisters-in-law Edith and Helen. Al died at the age of 88 on Jan 05, 2017.
Darlene (Catherine Hattie Schellenberg) Dyck was born Aug 23, 1930 in Falfurrias TX to the late Nicholas J and Hattie (Schroeder) Schellenberg. She is preceded in death by her one brother and two sisters; David Schellenberg, Trudie Reader and Genny Wilcox. Darlene died at the age of 87 on Jun 17, 2018.
Both Al and Darlene became Christians and proclaimed Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior at a young age. They met at Pacific Bible Institute in Fresno CA where both were attending. They were married on May 18, 1950. They briefly lived in British Columbia Canada before moving back to Fresno CA and then to Soquel CA in 1972. Al and Darlene are survived by their sons and their wives; Ron & Karen, Gary & Suzanne and Jim & Nancy as well as their grandchildren; Joshua (Amanda), Jared (Michelle), Timothy, Gregory, Jeffery and Emily and their one great-grandchild Cory; and their numerous other family members.
Al worked at Sears as a salesman until his retirement in 1992 after 30 years of service. Darlene worked in accounting for a number of companies including USCS before changing her career path to care for her family full-time. They were active members of the Cliffwood Heights Neighborhood church and then Twin Lakes Church.
In their spare time Al and Darlene loved to fish, camp, RV, garden and play board games. Their greatest gift to their kids was themselves and their marriage. The examples they created; unbounded. Their time, love, and faith; unending. They helped to guide, prod, discipline and encourage. They loved their boys with all their hearts and would sacrifice anything to help them. They will be greatly missed. "We love you Mom and Dad...forever and ever and ever."
The Celebration of Life Service will be on Jul 14, 2018 at Oakwood Memorial Chapel 3301 Paul Sweet Rd, Santa Cruz CA at 11am with a light lunch following. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to: Hospice of Santa Cruz, Twin Lakes Church or Mennonite Central Committee.
