Frances Guggenheim Obituary

of Ben Lomond, born August 30, 1923, died June 12, 2005 surrounded by family and friends. Born in Freemont Nebraska, raised in Huron South Dakota, graduating from high school in Winona MI, she then graduated from St. Olaf College in 1945 with a degree in biology and chemistry. She then worked as a medical technologist at Los Angles Children's Hospital, where she met her future husband.

She raised her five children in Topeka Kansas, Council Bluffs Iowa, and Northridge California, while working as a microbiologist, and retiring from Smith Klein in 1987. Her interests included horses, Americana, quilting, music, knitting, rock hunting, Native Americans, cross word puzzles, politics, nature, gardening and helping in the raising of her grand children. She used her medical expertise to help friends and neighbors, her love and support extended to anyone that walked into her house. Her strength, values, and knowledge will be missed, yet lives on in all whose lives she touched.

The Matriarch of the family, she is survived by Paul Guggenheim (90), her husband of 57 years; her children Kathryn Guggenheim, Carla Guggenheim, Karen Guggenheim, Clarissa Ann Guggenheim, and Thomas Link Guggenheim; her grand children Hillary Marsh, Alena Guggenheim, Kalina Machlis, Kathryn Guggenheim, Kristen Guggenheim, John Guggenheim, and Maxwell Hugo Etienne-Guggenheim; her great granddaughters Ariana and Lilly Marsh; her brother James Link and his wife Margaret and their two sons James and Christopher; her nieces Maximillian Ewalt and Monserrat Wassam and Monserrat's son Pascal Wassam; and 1st cousin Carol Drayton.

She is preceded in death by her parents Herman Link and Gwendolyn Ellen Drayton Link, and her sister in-law Mary Guggenheim.

A service will be held Wednesday, June 15, 2005 at 3:00 pm at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church at Riverside Ave and Glen Arbor Road in Ben Lomond, California. In lieu of flowers, gifts can be made to the St. Joseph's Indian School in Chamberlain, South Dakota, 57326.
