James M. Dellamonica, Sr. Dec 23, 1925-Jan 26, 2013 Resident of Valley Springs Jim passed in his sleep on the morning of January 26, 2013, of natural causes. He was born at 41 Blaine Street in Santa Cruz, CA on December 23, 1925 to Louis and Marjorie Dellamonica. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Louise M. Dellamonica, his son and daughter-in-law James and Marsha Dellamonica Jr., his grandson Jacob Della-monica, and his granddaughter Sybil (Della-monica) Betancourt, and three great grandchildren. He is further survived by his three stepchildren, Daniel Sandrock, Anna Graves, Susan Sandrock. Jim left Santa Cruz High School before graduating to join the Navy and spent his WWII years aboard the USS Bering Strait in the Pacific Campaigns. He returned to Santa Cruz and enjoyed working at various professions until 1962 when he became the third fulltime firefighter hired by the Live Oak Fire Protection District. He loved being a firefighter. He enjoyed the camaraderie of his fellow fire-fighters. He retired from the LOFPD as a Fire Captain in 1982. In 1984, he became one of the Directors of the newly formed Central Fire Protection District. He met Louise Sandrock in 1962 and they were married on 3-12-64. They have been unseparable since then. In 1991, they bought property and built their house in Valley Springs, California. In Valley Springs, Jim collected and repaired old clocks and watches as a hobby and also collected old coins. He raised and sold peacocks for fun and also loved letting the neighbors horses graze on his lower five acre parcel. Funeral service will be Feb. 1, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. with a viewing beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the Santa Cruz Memorial, Mission Chapel, 1927 Ocean Street, Santa Cruz, CA.
