Phillip Mason Duke October 31, 1940 - September 20, 2013 Resident of Oakland Phillip Mason Duke died at his home in Oakland at the age of 72. Phillip was born in Santa Cruz on October 31, 1940 to Clyde and Grace Duke. He grew up in the family house on Gault Street and attended Gault School, Branciforte Jr. High and graduated from Santa Cruz High School in 1958. After high school, Phil joined the Navy and was on a Seaplane tender called the Salisbury and served in the Pacific for four years. After the Navy, Phil attended Cabrillo College and received his AA Degree and worked as a land surveyor in Santa Cruz. In 1967 Phil and his friend Walt Nielsen traveled to Australia. In Oakland he learned to be a computer technician and programmer and worked for UC Berkley until his retirement in 1997. He married Jill Prifogle in 1973; they had two children, Laura and Julie. Phillip was an avid fisherman and loved being outdoors, especially in his beloved Sierras'. In his retirement Phil with his camper and fishing pole traveled the US and Alaska. His best friend and companion was Denise Bodie who loved to travel with him. He loved to play jokes and always had a smile and a twinkle in his eye. His family was very important to him. He is survived by his children Laura Krueger and her husband Kendall of Oakland, Julie Pulse and her husband Jesse of Kelseyville, grandchildren Kate and Colin Pulse; brother and sister-in-law Larry and Shenna Duke of Capitola, nephews and nieces Steven, Nicole and Nina Duke of Aptos, Shelby, Jeff and Caleb Tarlton of San Jose and his companion Denise Bodie of Oakland.
