Wilma Davenhill Norvell Obituary
Wilma Davenhill Norvell
May 26, 1922 - Feb. 25. 2014
"True Santa Cruz Local!"
Wilma Davenhill Norvell passed away on February 25, at Dominican Hospital at the age of 91. Born to Selma and William Davenhill, her parents owned and operated Davenhill and Son, a company that distributed wood, coal, and eventually stove oil to Santa Cruz County. For the past four years, she has been a resident of Pacific Coast Manor in Capitola. Wilma graduated from Santa Cruz High School in 1940, and Business College in 1941. She married Howell Fred Norvell in 1944. Together they owned and operated Camp Evers Chevron Station in Scotts Valley from 1953-1973. She was known as "the tall lady" in the fabric department at TG&Y on the Westside of Santa Cruz, working there from 1977 until the store closed in the early 90's. Wilma volunteered with the Santa Cruz High School Alumni for many years, and enjoyed sewing and baking. Her family and many fortunate friends of Wilma will cherish memories of her famous pies and the joy she shared in making them.
She loved and adored her family and is survived by her son David (Kathleen) Norvell, daughter, Debra (Clay) Woodard, her grandchildren: Jenna (Tony) Norvell-Torres, Jonathan (Seana) Norvell, Joleen (Wes) Althaus, Salina (Greg) Crist, Dane (Sarah) Woodard, and Hunter Woodard, along with eight great –grandchildren (soon to be nine).
The family would like to thank the entire staff at Pacific Coast Manor for the loving care given to her while she resided there. A special thank you to Dr. Karen Lynch for her many years of skilled care and compassion.
