David H. Jenner passed away peacefully at the age of 80. Dave was born in Los Angeles, CA to William & Elizabeth Jenner. He grew up in LA with his two brothers, Charles and Fred, and sister Laura Lou. He attended John Muir Junior High and Graduated from Manual Arts High School with honors. He was awarded an Admiral Holloway Naval Scholarship to the University of Southern California and was a Freshman Scholastic Honor USC Naval ROTC. He graduated USC in 1955 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering along with commission as Ensign, USN. He entered flight training at Pensacola, FL in 1955 and finished his training in Kingsville, TX in 1956 where he was awarded his "wings" as Navy Carrier Fighter Pilot. He joined the Naval Fighter Squadron 152 "Fighting Aces" at Moffett Field, CA in late 1956 and remained with the squadron until 1959. During that time he served on the USS Hornet Aircraft Carrier CVA12 and the USS Bennington where he made two carrier deployments in the Western Pacific. After his time with his squadron he left active duty and entered the Naval Reserve. He then went to work as an Aeronautical Engineer with United Airlines while living in San Francisco, CA.
Dave met Liliane Rabanel in San Francisco, CA in 1962. They were married in October 1964 and would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this year. Dave took on a family of five children when he met Liliane and he was always there to support them and be their Dad. They moved to Cupertino, CA in 1966 and then moved to Santa Cruz, CA in 1970 which has been their home for forty-four years.
Dave joined Pan American as a flight engineer in 1966 and worked as a commercial pilot with them for 25 years. Dave flew from San Francisco to South America and the Pacific Routes and then finally was assigned to routes from New York City to Europe flying Boeing 707 and 747's. He retired from the Naval Reserve as Commander USN in 1975. He finally retired as Captain from Pan American in 1991 when Pan Am was dissolved.
Dave and Lily were partners in a 30' Catalina sailboat with four other friends that moored in the Santa Cruz Yacht Harbor. They spent many wonderful years sailing on the Monterey Bay on the "Five O". Dave also went on many trips with his buddies to sail in the Caribbean and partake in a little rum. They were world travelers taking trips to Europe, Australia, Egypt, China, South America, and several safaris to Africa. They loved hiking and camping in Yosemite Valley and the high country for the past 50 years. They took their children and grandchildren on many great trips there. They rafted down the Amazon, and the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon. Dave was an avid History and Political buff. He enjoyed the symphony, baseball, football, and tennis. They continued to be active with the Fighting Aces Squadron 152 attending many reunions over the years. They loved to entertain and had wonderful parties for Christmas, Mardi Gras, and the Kentucky Derby with all their friends and family. Dave was a soft spoken man, an "officer and a gentlemen", with a great sense of humor. He will be missed by us all.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years Liliane Odette Jenner, son Phil Chadd and wife Karen, son Keith Chadd and wife Lynn, daughter Susie Thompson and husband Don, daughter Candie Thompson and husband David, and son Curtis Chadd.
