Ronald W. Axley died April 25, 2014, at his home in Aptos, after a two-year battle with cancer. He was 71. A native of Susanville, he attended local schools there and graduated from Lassen Junior College. Ron began his career with Granite Construction Co. in the Sacramento office but was soon transferred to their new office in Santa Cruz. He later moved to the Watsonville office, where he worked as the office manager there until his retirement in 2008. He was on Granite Construction's bowling league, and in his retirement he enjoyed fishing, and traveling extensively.
Ron leaves his partner of 40 years, David Rock, of the family home in Aptos, his mother, Alline Axley, of Susanville, his twin brother, Donald, of Sacramento, a sister, Arlene Friend, of Susanville, and two nephews, Jason and Erick.
A chapel blessing will be held Friday, May 9, 2014, at 1:00 p.m. at Mehl's Colonial Chapel. Burial will be at Valley Catholic Cemetery at a later date. Donations are preferred to Hospice of Santa Cruz Co., 940 Disc Dr., Scotts Valley, CA 95066.
