Barbara Pechaver Barrett Obituary
Barbara Pechaver Barrett
Resident of Aptos
Services will be held in Aptos on Sunday for Barbara Barrett who passed away on May 28, 2014. Born in Sacramento, Barbara graduated from Cordova High School in 1984, earning her Bachelor's from CSU Chico. She travelled the South Pacific, applying her degree in Recreation Management in Guam. After earning a Master's at CSU Sacramento, she began teaching in Santa Cruz. She met her husband-to-be, Barry Barrett, in 1999 while training for the Big Sur Marathon, and married in 2000.
As a dedicated teacher at DeLaveaga Elementary (17 years), and consummate volunteer at Mar Vista Elementary, Barb's leadership and friendship will be dearly missed. She was a devoted mother who actively engaged her sons, and many other children, in learning and sports. She also loved the ocean, taking beach walks and running, reading, sailing with her husband and sons, and spending time with her extended family and friends.
Barb leaves her husband of 14 years and their sons, Cameron (12) and Nicholas (10); mother Anna Pechaver; sisters Monika (Jim) Robinson with Alex and Tyler, Margaret (Judd) Holiday with Ryan and Amy, and Helena (Mario) Pechaver Starc with Josef, Martina and Antonia; in-laws Joe and Linda Barrett, Esme and Robert Lee, with Glen Barrett, Jim Barrett, Patty (Brian) Miller, and Michael and Kelly Massy.; and many relatives globally. She was preceded in death by her father, Anton Pechaver.
A farewell ceremony and reception for friends and family to celebrate Barbara and the gifts of love and care that she gave to many, will be Sunday, June 8, 3pm at Twin Lakes Church, 92701 Cabrillo College Drive in Aptos. Any kind acts may be made in her memory to an educational fund for her sons at http://www.gofundme.com/BarbaraBarrett.
