Angel DeLuna
Mar. 6, 1932 - Aug. 17, 2014
Resident of Watsonville
Angel Delfin de Luna, 82, passed away early Sunday morning August 17, 2014 at the Watsonville Community Hospital with his family at his side.
Angel was born March 6, 1932, in Malimpec, Pangasinan, Philippines to Ricardo and Marcela de Luna. Angel's parents passed away early in his life but with the help of family and friends he was able to progress in life and eventually obtained a certificate in Poultry & Swine Husbandry from the University of the Philippines in Los Banos.
Angel always took whatever work he performed seriously and he proved himself, time and again, to be an honest and skilled worker. This afforded him many opportunities in life. He was a clerk in the Finance Department with the Philippine Air Force. He was a construction foreman with E.E. Block Ltd., in both Subic Bay and Clark Air Base. He was also a foreman with Marcelo Steel Company. And finally he spent many years with the Philippine Airlines in surveillance as an undercover cargo clerk.
In February 1980 he and his family immigrated to the Untied States and settled in Watsonville, California. He spent many years working with Nakashima Nursery and held jobs locally with Deer Park Tavern, Seascape Resort restaurant, and finally at PG&E in Moss Landing as a contract worker with Expert Building Maintenance and the Able Construction Company.
Angel was a devoted and active member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church where he was a Eucharistic minister. He assisted daily at mass, helping at funerals, baptisms and bringing communion to homebound members. He also was a member of Recollections in Christianity Movement in Vallejo, Calif. and a member of the Watsonville Filipino Community. Angel was an active man who enjoyed being busy gardening, building or helping out family and friends.
Angel is survived by his wife of 50 years, Virgina; his two brothers, Vitaliano and Federico; his son, Ferdinand and his wife Tanya; daughters Teodora George and husband David; Edna de Luna and May Schneider and her husband Jonathan; grand-daughter Charlene de Luna; grandson Ivan Veryaskin, as well as many nieces and nephews and friends.
A Visitation for Angel is scheduled at Mehl's Colonial Chapel from 5-9pm on Sunday 8/24 with a Rosary Service at 7. The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Patricks Church at 10am on Monday 8/25 with the burial to follow at Valley Public Cemetery.
