Frances Marie Young-Owens, born September 9, 1944, to Jesse and Rosemarie Young, transitioned from this world on Wednesday, July 16, 2008, in Santa Cruz, California, with her loving partner Dan Blunk and caregiving friends at her side.
Fran was born in Algona, Iowa, where her father was stationed at a P.O.W. camp. After the war, the family moved to Modesto, California where her mother's family lived. Fran was raised in Modesto and it was there she met and married Stanley Owens. He was serving in the U.S. Army at the time of their marriage and perished in a helicopter crash nine months later. Following her husband's death, Fran moved to Santa Cruz. Fran worked at the University of California, Santa Cruz for 35 years, many of those at Crown College, and then at Planning and Budget where she retired as Director of Capital Planning.
She was preceded in death by her husband Stan Owens, father Jesse Young, and brother Steve Young. Fran is survived by her partner Dan Blunk of Santa Cruz; mother Rosemarie Young of Anacortes, Washington; sister Patricia McIntire of Albuquerque, New Mexico; brothers and sisters-in law Michael and Joyce Young of Anacortes, Washington, and Mark and Danielle Young of Lyman, Washington; and nieces and nephews. Her family and many friends around the country mourn the loss of Fran, who is much loved and cherished.
A celebration of Fran's life will be held at a future date.
