Stephen Zupan Obituary

Stephen Zupan, 96, of Watsonville passed away July 31, 2011 at his Watsonville home. He was born October 16, 1914, the second son of Mitchell and Katie Zupan, both Croatian immigrants. He had an older brother, John, who preceded him in death. He grew up the son of apple farmers and eventually took over the family business, M. Zupan & Sons, which he ran until 1979.

Steve married June Deiss in 1951. After his retirement from apple farming, he and June took many trips, including several abroad; twice to his family's homeland of Croatia. He was an active member in the community, serving in many clubs and organizations including SACO, SIRS, Knights of Columbus and Valley Catholic Church.

Beloved uncle to numerous nieces and nephews, he is also survived by many longtime friends and colleagues. He was preceded in death by June in 2000.

Steve lived in Watsonville his entire life and couldn't imagine living anywhere else. He was a man who truly lived his religion, loved his family and was respected by all who knew him.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Hospice of Santa Cruz County, 940 Disc Dr. Scotts Valley, CA 95066 or St. Francis Central Coast Catholic High School, 2400 E. Lake Ave. Watsonville, CA 95076

Visitation will be held at Mehl's Colonial Chapel on Tuesday, August 9th 1-5 p.m. and on Wednesday 8:30- 10:30 a.m. A Rosary and. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 10th at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Valley Catholic Cemetery.

Mehl's Colonial has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
