Resident of Watsonville
Elena passed away in her home on Saturday. She was 79. Elena was a homemaker that came to the U.S in 1960 then later went on to work for Buak Apples in the 70's until the early 80's and became an American Citizen in 2001. She enjoyed cooking for her family and friends because they were always welcome and knew there was always something to eat. Elena was a very family oriented person spending time with her grandchildren and attending family functions. She was well known for being a giving and loving person. She also loved to can different fruits and vegetables. She was well known for her refried beans and chile "salsa" verde and when she could no longer cook she enjoyed eating Taco Bell tacos.
Elena was preceded in death by her sister Ermelinda Casillas. She is survived by her husband Francisco Cervantes, their children, Frank (Maria) Cervantes Jr. of San Jose, Virginia Cervantes, Bertha (Cesar Padilla) Cervantes, Mark (Sonia) Cervantes, and Stella (Tony) Dominguez all of Watsonville. She is also survived by her siblings Alejandro (Elisa) Gutierrez of Lindsay, California, and Alicia Casillas of Pegueros, Jalisco, Mexico. She also leaves behind 14 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held at Ave Maria Memorial Chapel from 1-5pm then continuing at Our Lady Help of Christians from 6-9pm with the recitation of the rosary at 7pm. A funeral mass will be held on Friday at 10am at St. Patrick's Church with burial to follow at Valley Public Cemetery.
