Kristen Dawn Anderson Obituary
Kristen Dawn Anderson
July 26, 1990-July 16, 2013
Resident of Santa Cruz
Kristen Dawn Anderson passed away unexpectedly of natural causes early Tuesday morning on July 16, 2013, in Santa Cruz. Her death was most likely due to a hereditary heart condition. Kristen was 10 days shy of her 23rd birthday. Kristen was a native of Santa Cruz, born on July 26, 1990 at the former Community Hospital on Frederick St. Her parents are Lance and Kendra Anderson, and Tommy and Lauren Dembski.
Kristen went to VHM Christian School through 8th grade, continued on to Harbor High School, and then graduated from UC Santa Barbara with a degree in Psychology in 2012.
Kristen was a gifted athlete. She ran cross country and track for Harbor High, running a 5:07 mile at the age of 15. She played on numerous soccer teams, including club soccer for the Santa Cruz Jaws Team. She also participated in Junior Life Guards for many years, earning numerous awards.
Kristen was very intelligent and enjoyed reading classic literature, such as Faulkner and Hemingway. She also enjoyed reading and studying scientific books and articles, such as the magazine, "Scientific Journal", and a book we found in her room, "21st Century Astronomy".
Kristen was very inquisitive and brave. When she was four years old she came running into the house with an alligator lizard hanging from her finger. She had a big smile on her face as the creature hung on with its biting mouth; she wasn't even fazed by her bleeding finger.
Kristen enjoyed snow skiing in the Sierras and Utah, camping and white water rafting on the American River, going to Seabright beach, and walking along West Cliff with her beloved dogs, Rex and Buster. Kristen loved all animals, and enjoyed being close to her pet bearded dragon lizard, Iz.
We all enjoyed her positive, happy personality; her beautiful smile; her gorgeous eyes; her down to earth sweetness; her determination, confidence and vigor; her adventurous nature; her contagious laugh; and her willingness to always help, support and love the people around her. Kristen was a wonderful and loving daughter, sister, friend and person. She will be extremely missed by all those who knew her.
Although her life was cut short too soon, we are grateful to God for giving us Kristen and those most wonderful and blessed 23 years of being in her presence. Kristen inspired and touched every person who came across her path. Her bright light will shine eternally in our hearts.
Kristen is survived by her parents Lance & Kendra Anderson; Lauren & Tommy Dembski; siblings Marc Prefontaine, Nicole Anderson, Kyle Dembski and Kamy Dembski; grandparents Pauline Phillips, Joan Anderson, Alan and Adora Palmer and Tom Dembski Sr.; aunts and uncles Gary and Rosa Phillips, Steve and Debbie Phillips, Ron and Nida Phillips, Craig and Patricia Anderson, Damon and Trudy Anderson, Todd and Karen Anderson, Kevin and Jill Palmer, Cameron Palmer, and John and Vivian Dembski; as well as numerous cousins, including her adored and beloved cousin Kim Cuccia, her husband Paul and their children, Sheena and Vincent.
A celebration of Kristen's life will be held on July 26, 2013, which would have been her 23rd birthday. The service will begin at 1 PM and will be held at St. Joseph's Church, located at 435 Monterey Avenue in Capitola, CA. A visitation will be held at Benito & Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel on Thursday July 25, 2013 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
