Tevyn Duane Gangloff
March 11, 1992 - Dec. 24, 2013
Resident of Soquel, California
Tevyn Duane Gangloff entered eternal life on December 24, 2013 after a tragic motorcycle accident in Phoenix, Arizona. He was 21.
Tevyn was born in Santa Cruz, California on March 11, 1992 to Marcelle Gangloff and Dave Menor. The oldest of two brothers, Tevyn was a resident of Soquel for 18 years. An excellent athlete and academic, he started playing football in the Santa Cruz Pop Warner league at the age of six and soon earned a Pop Warner Scholar/Athlete trophy. In 2002, he was honored for his exceptional scholastic achievement and community service and was recognized by the Del Mar Middle School for developing and maintaining a spirit of kindness. In 2003, Tevyn was awarded the Certificate of Academic Excellence Pacific Northwest Regional Scholar and was later recognized for his abilities in math and school leadership. Tevyn was also an avid basketball player. While at the Shoreline School he was presented with the All-Tourney Player at the 44th Annual Blake Walton Basketball Tourney and also played with the local Santa Cruz AAU team.
Upon entering Soquel High School in 2007, Tevyn continued to play football, where he made Second Team All-S.C.C.A.L. In addition to excelling on the football field and basketball court, Tevyn also was a committed and superb student. At Soquel High School he graduated in 2010 with a GPA of 3.2, excelling in English, math and science.
During his high school years, people began to see Tevyn's incredibly giving nature as he helped coach the local Pop Warner teams from 2007-2009. He started as a high school volunteer and went on to hold the position of Assistant Coach and Defensive Coordinator. Because Tevyn was such a natural at coaching and he loved helping the boys achieve their full potential, he was inspired to coach basketball, volunteering as an assistant coach in 2008 and obtaining the head coach position for the 2009 season.
Recognizing Tevyn's early accomplishments and incredible potential, he was accepted into the School of Letters and Science at
Arizona State University
in Tempe, AZ. After achieving a stellar academic record during his first years, he was accepted to both the school of engineering and the school of business, no small feat given he also was working to help pay for school. Tevyn, however, decided to pursue a degree in Criminology as it was a subject he was most passionate about. He loved going to class and learning as much as possible, often reading deep into the night. Tevyn was scheduled to graduate this May with a BA in Criminal Justice and a 3.25 GPA.
Beyond academics and athletics, Tevyn was a young man who loved life. Whether playing pickup games with his friends and cousins, playing golf with Grandpa Marv or his cousin Paulie, sitting around the table enjoying his mom's tacos, listening to the latest track from Kid Cudi, reading the next installment of the Hunger Games series, or just hanging out at home with his mom, brother, girlfriend and baby Elijah, Tevyn embraced every moment that life offered.
Tevyn cared deeply about others. Friends and family, who lovingly called him Teddy or T-Money, will always remember Tevyn as devoted and supportive. He met his girlfriend, Jessica, while attending school and helped raise her son as if he was his own. Tevyn was willing to put the needs of others before his own and was always able to see the good in people. He was incredibly charismatic and when he entered a room, people knew it. His eyes shone with a passion that reflected how much he loved life and the challenges that came with it. He faced each and every challenge with a calm and focus that ensured he would find success.
It is because of this incredible, giving nature, it was no surprise to learn that Tevyn was an organ donor and through one, final selfless act, he was able to give life to others, including several children who received Tevyn's gifts.
Further, Tevyn was a man of faith. He went to church to light candles, said prayers at every meal and attended church services almost every Sunday. When he was home visiting during the summer, he and his mother would attend services together. It was clear, Tevyn's faith was the foundation for the way he lived his life and help shaped him to be the extraordinary young man he was. When Tevyn was brought to the hospital after the accident, doctors found his bible in his front pocket.
His spirit is carried on by: his mother Marcelle Gangloff, brothers Channing Trestan Peacock and Niko Alarcorn, father Dave Menor and stepmother Rose, half-sister Bryanna, brother Dave Menor Jr., girlfriend Jessica Empson, stepson Elijah, stepfather Steve Posey, sister Jasmine, & brother Kendrick, aunts Melissa Gangloff and Michele Broadway, uncles Tony and Richard Menor, Donald Broadway, Romy Tomacder and Michael Gangloff, cousins, Andrew (Kira), Nico (Maria), Donnie, Gina, Shei, Elijah, and John Jones, grandparents Marvin and Pamela Gangloff, Susan Lovato, great-grandmothers Lillian Gangloff and Loraine Lovato as well as numerous cousins and friends here in Santa Cruz and Tempe. He was preceded in death by his Aunt Charlene Jones, Uncle Spencer Hunt, brothers Wesley Ellis and Adam Aritchita.
A memorial service honoring Tevyn's life will be held at Resurrection Catholic Church, 7600 Soquel Drive, Aptos, CA on January 24, 2014 at 10:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Tevyn Gangloff Memorial Scholarship Fund @ Santa Cruz Pop Warner Football, PO Box 2962, Santa Cruz, CA 95063 or
