Harry Richard York
Jan. 15, 1926 - Mar. 9, 2014
Nevada City, CA
Harry Richard York passed away on Mar. 9, 2014 surrounded by family. He was 88. A Celebration of Life will be at 2 p.m. on Mon. Mar. 24, 2014 at the Twin Cities Church, 11726 Rough and Ready Hwy, Grass Valley. Harry was the middle of eleven children born Jan. 15, 1926 in Goodland, Sherman County, Kan. It was in Scotts Valley at the annual Camp Mtg where he met the love of his life, Lois Topper. They were married in Lincoln, Calif. in 1954. They raised their four children in Santa Cruz County; Renae, Rebecca, Nathan, and Ramona. He finally retired to Grass Valley in 1988. Harry was a Teacher, Elementary and High School Principal, General Contractor, Land Developer, and Church Builder. He served his country during the Korean War and was honorably discharged with the rank of Military SGT with the Medics. He earned a Life Teaching Credential with the State of Ca. He taught five years at Monte Vista Christian School in Watsonville and served on the Board of Regents. He led several foreign mission building teams and many teams to local churches in California and Nevada. Some of his favorite pursuits were gardening, bee keeping, bird watching, camping, hiking, playing games, helping others, serving, giving, and fixing things in his wood shop. He had first and foremost a deep and abiding love of God; becoming a man of the highest integrity, honorable, pure with no deceit, a man of faith, unique and one of a kind. He loved a good debate and enjoyed exploring and challenging others thoughts and beliefs. Babies and children were especially delightful to him, bringing out his ready million dollar smile and a sparkle to his crystal blue eyes. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, his four children, three brothers, and numerous nieces and nephews. He also leaves 15 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren.
