Engineer, Inventor,
Renaissance man
The Bonny Doon, Santa Cruz and Felton community will certainly miss our dear friend and mentor, Greg, who passed away unexpectedly Sunday night. He was a trusted and loyal friend who touched many lives and helped make this world a better place to live.
Born September 12, 1947 in Mt. Clair, New Jersey, Greg grew up in Menlo Park, CA. After high school graduation, Greg attended U.C.L.A. and Cal Berkley where he graduated in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. Brilliant in both Chemistry and Mathematics, Greg went on to work at Intel Corp. He worked with Andy Grove in helping to develop the fledging company into the giant it has become today. He held several patents, including the little key that figures percentages on the hand held calculator.
Greg was able to take an early retirement at age 47. Then he traveled the world visiting the Orient, Europe, North Africa and the South Pacific. Always interested in the Arts, Greg became an accomplished Graphic artist, after studying at U.C. Santa Cruz and with private teachers. Other interests included sailing, cooking, home-wine making and raising and training his beloved black lab Sam, who ultimately achieved many field titles in the North American Hunting Retriever Association, of which Greg was a member.
Always willing to share his extensive knowledge in Science & History Greg successfully planned and delivered a series of lectures to 4th and 5th grade Science students last year at San Lorenzo Elementary School in Felton. He inspired them to learn about the Bohr Model and Periodic Table of Elements.
His generosity, quick wit, easy laughter and gentle demeanor will be fondly remembered by the young and the young at heart.
Greg is survived by his mother Alice Fyler of Deerfield, IL, his best friend his dog Empires Honest Sampson and the many friends who loved him very much.
A visitation will be at Benito & Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel, 1050 Cayuga St. Santa Cruz on Friday December 1, 2006 from 10:00 a.m. 12:00 p.m. There will be a blessing service at 12:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers the family would prefer donations in Greg's fathers name Norman Fyler be made to the Parkinson's Institute, 1170 Morse Ave. Sunnyvale, CA 94089.

Linda and I think of Gregmo often. We miss him. Our dogs at the time always loved to see him because of his gentle kindness. We have an annual reminder of Greg's birthday and passing on our calendar and always take a moment to reflect.

My childhood best friend in Menlo Park and beyond, you will be greatly missed. How often over the years have I thought of you and admired your successes. We were quite a pair back then in the 50's. Our parents were always kept guessing.

Gregmo was one of a kind. He certainly had the world figured to a high degree of accuracy. Sorry, you checked out so early, Greg.
